Bogotá - Coffee region - Medellin - Cartagena 

 

Travel information

Day 1 - Arrival in Bogotá

Your travel companion will welcome you at the international airport "El Dorado" in Bogotá. After the welcome he will take you to the hotel.

 

Day 2 - City Tour with the most beautiful highlights of the world metropolis

The private tour of the city starts with the pick up at the hotel. Your private guide will take you to the most beautiful and outstanding places of Bogotá. The first place to mention is the Plaza de "Simon Bolivar". There you will find the most important political and representative buildings of the capital, such as the City Hall, the Cathedral, the Palace of Justice and the seat of government of Colombia. Afterwards you will visit the historic old town with its narrow streets, colonial houses and countless small typical cafés. It is also worth visiting the Gold Museum in the center of the city. This has a pre-Columbian gold collection that is unique in the world and is also the largest of its kind with about 35,000 exhibits. You can also visit the famous Botero-Museum. But there is one thing you should not miss: the breathtaking view of the lively metropolis from the mountain Monserrate.

 

Day 3 - The "green heart" of Colombia - The coffee region
During the next three days you will get to know one of the most beautiful and varied regions of Colombia, the coffee region.

After breakfast your guide will pick you up from your hotel and take you to the airport "El Dorado" Bogotá. Afterwards you fly from Bogotá to Pereira.

 Upon arrival at Pereira airport you will be met by our team and transferred to the hotel.  After check-in, the rest of the afternoon is at your leisure.

 

Day 4 - Panoramic tour through the middle Cordillera 
This excursion takes you along one of the most fascinating panoramic roads in the coffee region. Along the roads lined with coffee and banana plants we will drive up into the breathtaking mountain world of Colombia to the "Balcón del Paisaje - the imposing statue of Christ". You can hear and marvel, it is one of the largest in the world if you look at the Christ statue as a whole, including the pedestal on which it stands. From up here you have a magnificent view of the volcanic area "Parque Los Nevados", of four Departementos and five Municipios. If this view is not enough and you want to go even higher, you can climb the head of the Christ statue and enjoy the most beautiful views with Christ eyes.

 

Afterwards you continue to the mountain village Belalcázar. The village is located off the classical tourist routes and presents itself to you in its original form. With the guide you will stroll a little through the authentic village and get to know the culture and everyday life of the mountain people. A short hike through a piece of natural jungle path follows before you continue your journey on one of the most unique panoramic roads. Past coffee, banana, lulo and cocoa plantations. Breathtaking views are guaranteed with breaks for coffee and lunch.

 

Day 5 - Two authentic and charming villages in the mountains  
The enchanting mountain villages Santuario and Apia are your destination for the day. They are beautifully situated in the mountains of the Western Cordillera. Here you will not find any foreign tourism. Everything runs normally, sometimes with a little more peace and quiet, sometimes with Colombian temperament and hustle and bustle. Both villages are colonial very well preserved and have been able to keep their natural charm until today.  

 

The first thing you do is drive up into the mountains to Santuario. Arrived at the village plaza, you will visit and marvel at the beautifully designed, decorated and colorful village center. Afterwards you stroll extensively through the village. Later you will drive high up on a mountain ridge. From up there you have a gigantic view of the majestic mountains of the Western Cordillera with its idyll. You can enjoy this view even further on a small circular path before it is time for lunch and you return to the village.

 

After lunch you will continue your journey to Apia. There a beautiful mountain village is also waiting for you to be discovered. Embedded in hilly coffee plantations in full lush green, both the landscape and the pretty village provide many photo motives. To get another fantastic, far-reaching view of the Colombian mountain world, you will also drive further up over the village. But not only the view up there is spectacular, it is also followed by a short walk through a small "plant and nature park", which will impress you with its green and flowering opulence.

 

Day 6 - Medellin, the capital of eternal spring
Your next destination is Medellin. In the morning your guide will pick you up at your hotel and take you to Pereira airport. Upon arrival in Medellin you will be met at the airport and driven to the hotel.

 

Medellin is a big city with a special character. Rarely are there cities where so much vegetation has been left behind. It is a mixture of city and nature and was voted "most innovative city of the year in the world" a few years ago. And you can recognize this in the cityscape by many modern designs, by the metro, from where you can take the cable car to the districts that lie in the mountains. Shopping centers, art, culture and musical festivals continue to characterize the modern city life of Medellin.

 

Day 7 - City Tour with the best sights of Medellin  

The city tour with the guide starts in the "Parque Berrio" with a visit to the Botero statues and the old town quarter with its buildings worth seeing. The tour continues to the 70 Boulevard. Afterwards you will visit the famous parks of the city, such as the "Parque pies descalzos", where you can walk and feel the underground barefoot, just like when you were a child. Another highlight of Medellin is the barrio "La Comuna 13". Once the most dangerous barrio of the city, it has developed over the years into an almost "artistic quarter". Situated on the hillside, many impressive house facades by graffiti artists tell the moving story of this quarter. Spontaneous breakdance and rap interludes by the young people tell the story of the historical change from the once predominant daily violence to the present "new life" of the inhabitants. Outdoor escalators as well as normal stairs characterize the ascent to the "Comuna 13". You will also always have great views over the city. In the afternoon the guide will take you back to the hotel.

 

Day 8 - The beautiful lake district of Guatapé and the rock El Peñol
Today the focus is on visiting these natural attractions. After breakfast your guide will pick you up at your hotel and you will first drive to the rock "El Peñol de Guatapé". It is a huge granite rock that rises majestically in the middle of the hilly landscape. You can climb the giant over about 650 steps. From up there you have a fantastic view of the surrounding lake landscape, which is so idyllic that you could think it was modelled by human hands. Afterwards you continue to the small town of Guatapé. The very pretty colonial-style village is very well preserved and can best be explored with a leisurely walk.

 

Each of the colorful houses captivates with its own creative decorations with motifs depicting the lake landscape around Guatapé. A stroll along the lakeside promenade forms the end of the excursion. In the late afternoon your guide will take you back to your hotel in Medellin.

 

Day 9 - The Caribbean coast of Colombia
From Medellin you fly today to the Caribbean coast of Colombia to Cartagena de Indias. This city is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful colonial cities in the Caribbean. With its very well preserved old town center, its narrow, romantic alleys, picturesque houses, numerous excellent restaurants and stylish hotels, Cartagena envelops you with its irresistible charm from the very first minute. Especially in the evening, when the city's numerous plazas turn into true artistic performance stages, you can feel the extraordinary magic of this city.

 

Day 10 - Cartagena de Indias
During the private guided tour through the historic old town you will also get exclusive insights into the "sweet world" of the Costeños with their aromas and fragrances. Further culinary surprises await you during the tour.

Day 12 - Departure and return flight
Also the most beautiful journey is once to end and thus it is called today parting from Cartagena and Colombia. Your guide will pick you up from your hotel and take you to Cartagena Airport for your return trip.
